1) Championship (League)

This is the “weekly bread and butter.”

• League matches (regular season): usually ~22 to 30 matches

  • Common setups are 12–16 teams, playing each other home + away

  • Examples:

    • 12 teams → 22 matches

    • 14 teams → 26 matches

    • 16 teams → 30 matches

• Optional extras (depending on format):

  • Promotion / relegation playoff matches: 0 to ~4

  • League “split” phase (if used): can add a few more

2) Cup (Luxembourg Cup)

Cup matches depend entirely on how far they advance.

• Cup rounds played: usually 1 to 6 matches

  • If eliminated early: 1–2 matches

  • If a good run: 3–5 matches

  • Deep run: 6+ matches

3) Tournaments (Pre-season / Invitation / Indoor)

These can be short events with group games + knockouts.

• Small tournaments (1-day / weekend): 2–4 matches

• Larger local tournaments: 3–6 matches

• Some clubs do 0 tournaments, others do 1–3 per year

4) Friendly Matches (Pre-season + Winter + Extra Prep)

Friendlies happen mainly:

• Pre-season (summer): 4–8

• Winter break (mid-season): 2–5

• Extra friendlies during the year: 0–3

Overall: how many matches in a season?

A realistic “normal” season total (for showing sponsors) is usually:

• Minimum-ish: ~30–35 matches (early cup exit + fewer friendlies)

• Typical: ~35–50 matches

• Busy season: ~50–60 matches (good cup run + more tournaments/friendlies)
